Hopefully, this will close to the end of my posts on this subject.
I found that I could run MS-DOS Kermit under Specific DOS in OS/2
by commenting out the
DEVICE=some\path\COM.SYS
DEVICE=some\other\path\VCOM.SYS
statements in the CONFIG.SYS files.
Trying an experiment,
I was extremely suprised to find that I could run MSDK in
DOS windows also after doing this, as well as a FAX program I
use.
What is the reason behind this?
There must be some disadvantages or restrictions on this,
but what?
Can anyone out there confirm that these *.SYS files are absolutely needed
for running C-Kermit and Kermit-95 under OS/2?
If they are, this would seem to imply that MS-DOS Kermit is
more independent of the operating system enviroment it is
running in, in some sense, where the other versions are
better suited to multitasking environments I would think.
If they are not, then what are these *.SYS files for?
(I just got my Kermit-95 package on order today :-) )
Anyway, thanks for any comment.
(I'm cross posting this to some OS/2 user groups,
and respondents there should do so by eMail,
I haven't been regularly reading them.)
